Sagrada Familia: A Must-Visit Historical Attraction in Barcelona

Under construction for over 140 years! The Sagrada Familia is the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. Renowned for its stunning architecture and unique design, the basilica is the masterpiece of Antoni Gaudi, a famous Catalan architect, who spent over 40 years working on the project until his death in 1926.

The basilica is adorned with intricate carvings of plants and animals, and the interior is filled with natural light that creates a sense of tranquillity and peace.

One of the most striking features of the Sagrada Familia is its towers. The basilica has 18 towers in total, each of which is dedicated to a different religious figure. The tallest tower is dedicated to Jesus Christ and stands at over 170 meters tall. Visitors can climb to the top of the towers to enjoy stunning views of Barcelona.

The Sagrada Familia is not only a beautiful work of art but also an important symbol of Catalan identity. The basilica has become a cultural icon of Barcelona and is a source of pride for the Catalan people. It is a testament to the creativity, ingenuity, and perseverance of Antoni Gaudi and the many architects, builders, and craftsmen who have worked on the project over the years.

History and Construction : Sagrada Familia

Construction of the Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and is expected to be completed in 2026, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death. Gaudi’s vision was to create a church that was inspired by nature and reflected his deep Catholic faith.

The construction of the Sagrada Familia has been a slow and arduous process, with various interruptions over the years, including the Spanish Civil War and financial difficulties.
