A featured location in multiple films, music videos, and animations, The London Eye has over 3.5 million visitors each year making it the most popular paid attraction in the UK and a cultural landscape in the city.
But what is so great about a giant Ferris wheel? At 135m, The London Eye is the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel and has won over 85 awards for national and international tourism, outstanding architectural quality, and engineering achievement.
You get a unique perspective of the city by sitting in one of its high-tech glass capsules, with stunning 360-degree views of landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and Buckingham Palace.
Built in 1999 as a temporary structure to celebrate the millennium, it was intended to be dismantled after five years, but its popularity led to it becoming a permanent fixture on the London skyline. It was designed by David Marks and Julia Barfield and was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world when it was first built.
Additionally, the London Eye is also conveniently situated in the middle of the city, making it a wonderful complement to any schedule.
Did you know? In 2012, the London Eye was transformed into a giant Olympic torch as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
