A Fusion of Old and New
STRAAT, the Dutch word for “street,” embodies the museum’s essence. It’s a place where the gritty energy of street art collides with the curated experience of a museum, creating a symphony of rebellion and respect. The museum itself, a former shipbuilding warehouse, becomes a living testament to the transformative power of art. Its towering brick walls, once silent witnesses to industrial production, now roar with vibrant colors and bold statements.
A Kaleidoscope of Creativity
Step inside and prepare to be immersed in a world unlike any other. Gone are the sterile white walls and hushed whispers. Here, pulsating beats mingle with the scrape of paintbrushes, and the air crackles with the raw energy of artistic expression. Enormous murals by legendary street artists like Buff Monster and SJK 171 envelope you, transporting you to a world where reality and imagination dance a vibrant tango.
Beyond the Surface
STRAAT isn’t just about the visual spectacle. It delves deeper, fostering a dialogue between art and society. The museum’s ever-evolving collection tackles a kaleidoscope of issues, from social justice and environmental concerns to mental health and political commentary. Each piece is a story waiting to be unraveled, a voice challenging the status quo and inviting critical reflection.

An Interactive Experience
STRAAT encourages a participatory approach. Interactive installations blur the lines between observer and participant, inviting you to become part of the art. Imagine leaving your digital mark on a collaborative mural or contributing to a soundscape echoing through the halls. Here, art isn’t just something to be admired; it’s something to be experienced, to be felt, to be a part of.
More Than a Museum: A Movement
STRAAT transcends the confines of its walls. It’s a catalyst for change, a platform for emerging artists, and a vibrant community space. Workshops, talks, and events bring together artists, art enthusiasts, and everyday citizens, fostering a dialogue about the power of street art to transform not just the physical landscape, but also the hearts and minds of those who encounter it.
Also, you are always welcome to stop by the STRAAT Cafe for snacks and beverages. The cafe provides a breathtaking view of the exhibition and is situated on the second and third floors. The museum and STRAAT Cafe are open at the same times.
So, ditch the tourist traps and explore a different kind of Amsterdam. Immerse yourself in the symphony of colors, the cacophony of emotions, and the raw energy of the STRAAT Museum. Here, street art isn’t just an aesthetic; it’s a breathing, evolving conversation, waiting to be heard.
